The outline drawings are from claw-like shapes from Maine in the U.S. Claw-like shapes are common, readily recognizable, and like all other shapes, often visible just on the ground.
Of course most often rocks are shaped by moving water; if these were not, misshapen examples may be a way to parse the difference.
